Maine Cottage was mentioned in a recent article in Real Simple magazine, Your Decorating Style Defined as a “Cozy Casual” style.

“Cozy Casual” is a good description of what the Maine Cottage style is, for the most part, all about. A simple, timeless design sensibility in fresh collaborative colors and fabrics – for an elegantly relaxed lifestyle. Of course, we’re open to your interpretation too. Below are a few highlights from the Real Simple article.

“Cozy Casual is a warm, traditional look made for relaxing with family and friends. Draws on English and early-American furniture designs, as well as laid-back country, cottage, and farmhouse styles. Weathered, low-maintenance furnishings are easy, inviting, and built for daily life. Think golden retrievers, fuzzy slippers, and just about any movie by Nancy Meyers.”

* Plush upholstery, often slipcovered, with roll or square arms and skirts or ball feet
* Indestructible tables with turned legs, trestles, or substantial pedestal bases
* Warm wood tones with rustic or distressed finishes
* Natural fabrics, like cotton and wool
* Solid textiles, simple stripes, or unfussy florals in muted colors

Here’s another interior by Maine Cottage co-founder Carol Bass. This time in a brightly-lit guest cottage (some would say “beach house”) near Charleston, South Carolina. Carol and partner Bob Newton collaborated to renovate and furnish this comfortable cottage from top to bottom using a wide variety of furnishings, including Maine Cottage, Carol’s original artwork, and a handmade dining table by Bob Newton.
